Community involvement

Our school values strong partnerships with our families and community. Parents and carers can get involved by volunteering at our school or through our Parents and Citizens Association (P&C). Your time and support help make our school a better place for everyone.

Volunteering at our school

Volunteering at school is a great way to get involved in your school community.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Should you wish to volunteer your time, make sure you have a current ‘Working with Children Declaration’ completed. Please enquire at the school office for further information.

Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)

Our P&C is a group of parents, carers and school community members. They assist with school planning, fundraising, events and volunteering. Our P&C works in partnership with our school to promote the interests of our school community.

Our Mission

The P&C exists and operates to support the welfare of our Waitara Public School community.

Our goals include:

1.      Bringing our school community together in close co-operation,

2.      Providing and improving school facilities, and

3.      Improving student welfare.

What we do

Volunteers arrange community events for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Harmony Day, and other occasions in collaboration with the school.

The school Uniform Shop is run by the P&C and exclusively supplies most of the school’s uniform needs. A group of parent volunteers staff the shop.

Through various fundraising activities, the P&C has funded the refurbishment of the library, facilitated air-conditioning, playground areas, and provided classroom essentials such as iPads, interactive whiteboards, reading and math equipment.

Meetings

Our P&C meetings are held in Week 5 - Terms, 1, 2 and 3, and Week 8 - Term 4. Two are held online on a Wednesday night at 7.00 pm (Terms 1 and 3), and the other two are held in-person on a Friday morning at 9.30 am (Terms 2 and 4).  In doing so, we cater for both working parents who cannot attend during the day, and those parents who may not be able to attend in the evening due to parenting duties.  We meet four times throughout the year, with our final meeting in Term 4 followed by the Annual General Meeting.

Meetings are a great way to learn more about what is going on at the school, contribute your views, and a forum to raise questions to the P&C and school.

Do P&C Associations charge a membership fee?

Yes. Each P&C Association has an annual subscription (membership fee) payable for those individuals who meet the membership criteria and wish to be a member. A financial member is able to participate in the democratic decision making processes of the P&C Association.

How to register for membership?

Membership of Waitara Public School Parents and Citizens' Association is open to all eligible people. Click this link to access the online membership registration. For any questions regarding the membership, please email us at waitara-pca@outlook.com

Parents WhatsApp Group Chats

The P&C facilitates the establishment of Class and Year Level WhatsApp groups to share information with and relevant to the parent body.

The aim of using WhatsApp is to connect parents with one another, foster a sense of community, provide a forum for parents to assist one another, ease the burden on the school by answering general queries, and send relevant school-related messages to the entire group.

Messages in these WhatsApp groups come from parents in a personal capacity, or are sent on behalf of the P&C. The school neither sends nor monitors messages on WhatsApp.

We would appreciate if parents could note the following guidelines when using these WhatsApp groups:

If you have any issues or concerns regarding a WhatsApp chat, please contact the administrator, or the P&C.
