Principal's Message

Welcome to Waitara Public School

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Guringai people on whose land our school stands, we pay our respects to Elders past and present.

We invite you to accompany us on a journey that offers our students a strong foundation for life-long learning.

Waitara Public School ensures every student is known, valued and cared for. It is an innovative, vibrant and engaged school community committed to delivering rich, inclusive learning in a nurturing environment.

Our aim is for students to be resilient, successful, creative independent thinkers who challenge themselves and inspire others, embodying a genuine passion for lifelong learning through equity and excellence in education.

We are proud of our school values programs that develop student confidence, empathy and tolerance. We articulate our school values through our program of Positive Behaviour, Engaging Learners; the Waitara Way is RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, PERSONAL BEST.

Waitara PS is an inspiring multicultural learning community with students from over fifty-two different cultural backgrounds. Our children are confident, enthusiastic and happy v because we respect each person’s uniqueness and the presence of all diverse groups. Waitara’s Multicultural day is a joyous celebration.

Students’ ICT competency for 21st Century Education is a priority especially in a rapidly changing world filled with new challenges and exciting new possibilities.  We have a strong technology infrastructure that allows all students access to wireless hubs and a selection of devices to support 21st Century skills, creativity, problem solving and critical thinking.  All students set goals through the process of reflection, self-assessment and feedback strategies.

Our professional and dedicated teachers are trained in best practice and regularly update their skills and understanding through expansive professional learning programs. Our teachers understand that the learning pathway for each child is unique and is connected to the relationship with the home. Our staff take care to inform and engage parents and carers in the life of the school and the challenges and achievements of all our students. Our invaluable support staff contribute to the efficient running of the school and together we create the best environment for students.

We have a long standing tradition of academic excellence balanced with diverse extra-curricular programs. Waitara has a strong student wellbeing focus with a wide range of programs in place to enhance the self-esteem of students. We focus on supporting students with additional learning needs as well as those demonstrating academic talent. Students are provided opportunities to develop their creative and artistic abilities through dance, public speaking, debating and music programs and their skills and sportsmanship in all manner of sports. Our focus on student leadership is evidenced by our Peer Support Program, Student Representative Council and Student Leadership Team.

Waitara PS’ culture of high expectations and belief in the potential within every child is the safe and creative space for empowering students to build a sense of purpose, self–value and belonging which spills over from the classrooms onto the playground, in homes and into the wider community. Strong partnerships with the community and a supportive parent body working closely with staff makes a valuable contribution to our “Learning Community” culture.

Waitara’s exciting redevelopment project will deliver by July 2020: New innovative learning environments to support modern learning; a new hall and canteen; Upgraded, administration and staff facilities; new outdoor learning areas.

I truly believe Waitara PS is a special place for your family. Welcome!
