Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

In Term 1 of 2019 we will be holding Harmony Day. As part of this school wide celebration we will be having a visual art focus. Each class will be studying a country and artist and producing either individual or whole class displays. We cannot wait to welcome our parents and carers in for this showcase!

Each week our students participate in a 40 minute music lesson with a specialist music teacher. Our students are taught by the wonderful Mrs Bell, Mrs Hain or Mrs Still. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 thrive in this developmental and appropriate music program.

In 2017 more than 350 students participated in the school’s extra-curricular music program.

To accommodate the high demand of student participation these are the teacher led music ensembles:

  • 7 Choirs

Stage 3: Waitara Voices, Waitara Singers, Waitara Song Crew

Stage 2: Waitara Junior Voices, Year 4 & Waitara Junior Voices, Year 3

Stage 1: Waitaramites Year 2 and Waitaramites Year 1

  • Tone Chime and Recorder Ensembles.

And the following user pays music ensembles:

  • 3 Bands

Senior Wind Ensemble

Our school has two dance troupes. Auditions are held each year for both the boys and girls troupe and regular weekly practice commences in Term 1. Our troupes are regular performers at the Sydney North Public Schoos Dance Festival.  Our talented Mrs Lee coordinates the dance program.
